Yesterday I went and visited a friend who I haven’t seen in 15 years. He’s a steward of the national park in Hawaii and lives in the middle of the rain forest. I totally get it now.

Your friends are my friends!! 😌 I’ll bring my telescope! 🏃‍♀️

Dylan Park-Pettiford · Dec 7

I took this pic with my iPhone.

Oh man, and I bet your camera just didn't do what it looks like justice. The night sky in areas without light pollution is something else I remember not being able to see the sky for the stars

Olafo Waffle · Dec 7

I haven't seen stars like that in a long time

Varlokkur · Dec 7

Good God, if that's with a phone, I bet you could see a lot more in person.

Musa Re · Dec 7

Wow! It's awesome, mesmerizing! Even the picture looks like it has depth, some three-dimensional quality to it.

Project 2026 · Dec 7

That’s a pretty great thing to do with your life 💙

jc · Dec 7

That’s really awesome.

@joesnopy.bsky.social · Dec 8

Sky’s like that was normal when I was a child. It’s sad kids don’t experience It now

brainrot man · Dec 7

Stop flying

Kevin Lewis · Dec 7

Your friend is Radagast? Or possibly Tom Bombadil?

Sleeper_token · Dec 7

Beautiful! Amazing picture. Love the night sky <3

@noowts.bsky.social · Dec 7

Wait, that's what the night sky really looks like? god it's beautiful

Being_Melissa · Dec 7

Ooooohhh 🥹😲💫✨️💫✨️

Many years ago I took a trip through Mexico to the highlands of Guatemala. The sky in the Sonoran desert and in the mountains was like that, just stupendous. Where I live now I have to travel quite a long distance to escape light pollution, but it's really worth it.

Mareriley · Dec 7

That is why I live in the mountains of NH; when you go out at night and it’s all ‘silence and stars’ it is such a magical feeling.

Just Kelly 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 · Dec 7

Absolutely gorgeous

FallbrookAstro · Dec 7

the dark side rocks

Tanisha Mathis · Dec 7

I could stare up at that all night.

@doc369.bsky.social · Dec 7

He's very lucky

Auliver · Dec 7

A view that makes me want to venture out into the stars 🖖🏾

@e4e5f4.bsky.social · Dec 7

This reminds of the old country song titled "Night rider's Lament" youtu.be/3wOrfKtAK2Y?...

This is so cool.

Brandon Caples · Dec 7

Wow, that looks like a dream.

VDB · Dec 7

Wow, didn't realize my screen was so dirty

@rdansie.bsky.social · Dec 7

I mean , is your friend looking for friends. That’s gorgeous!!

@dc-lagirl.bsky.social · Dec 7

On the big island?

Jon Broughton · Dec 7

If only we could each have such a simple existence. Not enough room for 8 billion+ of we hairless apes

@jshamont.bsky.social · Dec 7

And, gets paid for it…

Devster · Dec 7

If your friend wants someone to save him from such a terrible view, erm, I’m sure I can help.

Brian 🇺🇸 / Muzi 🇿🇦 · Dec 7

I'm guessing it's amazing and peaceful! Here is the Orion constellation in Maine.

Uli · Dec 7

I thought there was a smudge on my phone but no that’s the outline of a galaxy 😱

Paper Craft Werks · Dec 7

I am big jealous.

🦋♥️Dawn Loves Life♥️🦋 · Dec 7

That would be a dream!

Neutral Antagonist · Dec 7

Light pollution is one of the worst byproducts of modern civilization. During the blackout in la in the 90s people apparently called the cops because they never seen the milky way in the sky before. Have fun in the islands! Sounds like a dream vacation

@algolrising.bsky.social · Dec 7

Wowzers!

DatSandWitch · Dec 7

I just went to Mauna Kea last weekend for Star Gazing! There's nothing more sobering than a sky filled with stars. I hope you enjoy yourself!

Ema-lea · Dec 7

Same

@doublehelixx66.bsky.social · Dec 7

I remember the sky looking like this in Northern California.

snugpig · Dec 7

By the way, that bright star on the right is actually Jupiter!

@koshkakitty55.bsky.social · Dec 7

Ive been remembering the communes from the 60s -- now I get it.

Preesha · Dec 7

We really miss out on this by living in the city.

@mo-9.bsky.social · Dec 7

I really miss looking at the sky at night and seeing that. Back then when we used to visit my granny... may her soul rest in peace.

Ed · Dec 7

Nice

Pey · Dec 7

Is that the Pleiades just above Jupiter?

@scotttruhlar.bsky.social · Dec 7

We get a lesser version (due to a little bit of light pollution) of that where I grew up in Kansas. Ellsworth, Kansas, Dec 2, 2024.

Meg Pickett 🏳️‍⚧️🪐🛼🧀🖖🏳️‍⚧️ · Dec 7

Once you experience that kind of sky, it's hard to settle for less. My first observing run it felt like I could read from the Milky Way's light. Nothing humans create compares to this beauty.

Heather · Dec 7

Stunning

@mikkapolypse.bsky.social · Dec 7
