Oh man, and I bet your camera just didn't do what it looks like justice. The night sky in areas without light pollution is something else I remember not being able to see the sky for the stars

Many years ago I took a trip through Mexico to the highlands of Guatemala. The sky in the Sonoran desert and in the mountains was like that, just stupendous. Where I live now I have to travel quite a long distance to escape light pollution, but it's really worth it.
That is why I live in the mountains of NH; when you go out at night and it’s all ‘silence and stars’ it is such a magical feeling.

Light pollution is one of the worst byproducts of modern civilization. During the blackout in la in the 90s people apparently called the cops because they never seen the milky way in the sky before. Have fun in the islands! Sounds like a dream vacation

Ive been remembering the communes from the 60s -- now I get it.
We really miss out on this by living in the city.

We get a lesser version (due to a little bit of light pollution) of that where I grew up in Kansas. Ellsworth, Kansas, Dec 2, 2024.
Once you experience that kind of sky, it's hard to settle for less. My first observing run it felt like I could read from the Milky Way's light. Nothing humans create compares to this beauty.
