Why separated?
I had to leave my cat overnight at the vet, because she'd had an op. When she crawled out of the cage, into my arms, mewling and burrowing into me, holding on soooo tight, the vet went "I have NEVER seen a cat do that. That's one hell of a bond you got."

My wife was in the hospital for 2 weeks during covid (she did not and has not had covid- knock on wood). Frodo was sure I had killed her. So when she came home it was 30 minutes of zoomies and whines of joy. She went back in this year for 7 days so we face timed with him in my lap. Much better.

Mine can't jump that high but since I travel a good amount for work it doesn't matter if it's 24 hours or three weeks, she still does those same cries and won't leave me alone for a good 15 minutes. Dogs really are the best (and I include all animals but dogs are better at expressing it).
