i attempted to tackle the former first, simply by removing those parts; it still sounded okay in the craftos-pc emulator (which was very helpful when doing this, shoutouts to that project!), but ingame it resulted in an awful, distorted mess due to computercraft's speaker filtering (CW: loud)

i decided to leave in the decimation for now; although the FIR filter helped a lot with reducing stuff like the harsh noise at the beginning, the decimation was the part that actually reduced the distortion with this, i shifted focus on reducing the amount of register update cycles to 1 per sample
