On June 19, 1865 Military Order No 3 was brought to west-Texas by General Granger to enforce Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. While slavery wasn’t formally abolished until December of 1865, Juneteenth is celebrated as the end of slavery and freedom for millions of Americans.
