How /why is a public authority allowed to induce breaking the law re. cable on the highway?
I would have said the CO₂ from combustion vehicles takes up too much space, but hey, pick on the relatively clean tech!
Charging infrastructure should be placed in the road when pavement space is limited
Most of these I see are either parallel to the kerb or face out onto the road and either would be preferable to this arrangement. When I charge my car at a roadside charger I always make sure to tuck the cable away safely to avoid the risk of tripping or obstructing anyone.

Whats really darkly funny is that electric vehicles have massive batteries, because every motorist thinks they need to operate the war rig from mad max fury road, and these slow chargers dont even charge an electric van from 0% to 80% without being plugged in for any less than 10 hours, often more.
I'd be more angered about all the cars parked on double-yellows, and facing the wrong way (HIGHLY illegal where I live and ride/drive).

Indeed. Instead of adding charging for parked cars, we should be removing the parked cars.
And the lampost already in the middle of the pavement! Unlike this historic lampost in #Hove, exactly where it should be (& made of cast iron as a plus)
Why have they mounted the charger on that side of the lamppost?
Playing devils advocate here, but presumably the position of the charger unit is dictated by where the access panel is on the lamppost? I assume the bottom section can’t just be spun round.
I know this is in the UK, so you don't have the ADA, but surely this can't be legal. There's no way a person in a wheelchair could make it past that while it's plugged in.
