A young male Downy Woodpecker (left with the red on top of the head) and an adult male Downy Woodpecker (right.) Head feathers fluffed up as they are both on full alert. The adult chased the young one away; the mom of the young male was nearby and he flew back over to her.

Downy can be really annoying. Worst habit is punching rows of holes in trees to get the sap. Definitely can damage the trees.
