I got this for $5 at Valu Village in 1999. I think it's a first edition. At the end of high school I got in shit with my parents for staying out all night and partying (extremely unlike me), and spent the first week of summer holed up in my room, reading this, and learning to write C.

I've always seen the end of high school, and that summer, as an important turning point in my life. I remember all the hope and possibility, not just the kind when you're young, but of that era as well. I felt a twinge of it during Artemis, too. Why not do the hard things? Do the good things?
