The Pleiades star cluster (M45) captured over 25 hours. The blue glow is starlight reflecting off interstellar dust. The surrounding brown structures are the Integrated Flux Nebula, incredibly faint clouds lit by the glow of our entire galaxy. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #m45

I've spent many a night looking at the girls with my naked eye. Our house blocked most of the light from our town & these girls were prominent when looking out from our front door. I have looked with binoculars & I'm not sure it was better. When u r able to pick out all seven with your own eyes...

My eyes never were good enough, but it has amazed me to discover how MANY people grew up thinking the Pleiades were "the Little Dipper." Makes sense, because whereas the Big Dipper is a very good, conspicuous constellation, the real Little Dipper just isn't.

There was a time when the Pleiades was used as an eye test. Your vision was rated based on how many of the 7 main stars you were able to see.

My dad was an amateur astronomer. The Pleiades, the Seven Sisters, were his favorite thing to find in the night sky. When I read your post, I heard my father say the name, a voice gone now for 31 years. I miss him.

The Pleiades, always one of my favorites to gaze upon, showed me, in my later years here, that I can no longer see them strait on. I can only see them from the corner of my eye, like sneaking up on them, then I look straight at them and they disappear. The memories are wonderful, though.
