BREAKING: A petition has been submitted to the Polish parliament to ban confession in any religion for people under 18. It states that confession is a form of psychological abuse. It was pointed out that an adult stranger has no right to interrogate a child alone without the supervision of guardians

Only a couple thousand years too late, but it's a start. I remember sitting through those interrogations in a confessional as a child whose parents wanted to raise us as Catholics. Just one of the many abusive, superstitious practices that drove me from religion. Took decades to recover.

Six years of Catholic school, 6 days a week going to church. It was grade 1-6. What could I confess to? No option to confess to the sins of my father, who routinely gave my mother black eyes, smacked me every night at the dinner table & took out his stress on me with a belt on a bare bottom. Atheist

This is wrong.

Religion, root of all evil. Period.

Wow right?? I had to make stuff up b/c it was pretty stupid but I always said my penance prayers looking around for the older sibling I always prayed for.

I personally am agnostic but I don't agree with this, since not every cleric is untrustworthy and confession can be and is actually comforting for many religious kids. However I do agree we desperately need better discipline for the ones who do indeed do these unspeakable things to children

As a young boy in a catholic school we were made to do confession each Friday. I virtually made stuff up to ‘confess’ to.

Nice.

I remember going to confession as a child and _making up_ sins to confess. I couldn't think of anything I'd done that I felt was so horrendous as to be considered a sin, so I lied. A sin-ception of sorts.

Wouldn't that put childeren who are being abused by their parents / guardians at risk too?

Good. It's all BS

@anneski8.bsky.social · Dec 19

Wow! I couldn't agree more. I was absolutely traumatized by going to confession as a kid.

Hope that passes. So many pedophile priests.

Interesting to see government trying to interfere with religion. I think that that's called 'fair play'
