Awesome pictures and very interesting. Since I saw a “turned up toe area shoe” as a child I wonder what’s the purpose of this? Do you know why they do this? Is it a protection for the toes?

Such beautiful shoes. Their curled shapes resemble sleds gliding over snowy fields. Carefully made, they look warm and strong. The embroidery is lovely. A noble’s pair recalls a gratin dish. Another, with white leather and blue beads, looks soft and easy to walk in. A wonderful cultural heritage.

Most people travel to taste food, snag an Insta photo, and check a box. I appreciate that you capture the details of a culture, right down to sandals. Our world barely tolerates ‘stasis,’ which threatens the existence of polyculturalism. Your work helps hold it together a little longer!

All the varieties of handmade footwear shown in this & your previous post are absolutely amazing-many incredibly beautiful for their hand-craftsmanship. Yet while I found most of them lovely I was struck by the basic sandal made fr/old tires: recycling at its practical best! Great series of📸, K!👏
I wonder why it is that so many traditional shoes have upturned toes. Is it for practical reasons or simply fashion? These shoes are beautifully made, btw.
