To grow up as a girl in the Omo Valley is to walk between beauty and burden. In a world where tradition and modernity meet, I reflect on the constraints placed on girls. I was captivated by the strength and pride in their eyes.

Fantastic photos. It seems that the traditional lifestyle of these girls and young women has been quite oppressive, so I think the balance needs to be shifted to give them more freedom whilst maintaining their unique cultural identity.
It’s easy to have romantic notions about the life of pastoralist communities and their rich and ancient culture and traditions. But the reality is that it’s a very harsh existence, especially for women and girls.
