Any tips for soldering these IPDs without a stencil? Seems like using an iron damages/erodes the silver leads, hotplate has been the best method for me. I think the problem is that my PCB doesn't have any solder mask underneath leading to paste floating the package.

Normally a soldering iron shouldn't cause any damage. Maybe too high temperature? With decent flux gel that should be fairly smooth soldering

If you're having issues with the iron, I would try hot plate + hot air + flux. The hot plate should be set to something like 200°C or so and you're just using the hot air to bring it up a bit more over the melting point. This way can help avoid damaging components.
