I’m thinking of writing a mini hex/point crawl adventure and I’m thinking of doing something different with the map to show of the verticality of the adventure location. Thoughts? Is this cool idea or should I just stick to a 2D map?

Looks cool. If you plan on colors, it could be nice with altitude as different shades.

I really like it. Gives clear indication of how to navigation and conveys potential challenge while doing so, I think it would be a great map, either of them

As a certified Map Guy, these are sick, especially the hex, and I'd love to run/ plan a game on something like this. Very legible, as terrain and as game map

I like the pointclaw implementation! It shows both the verticallity AND the obstacles that impede certain routes.

It's a cool idea if there's nothing behind the hill

I love isometric stuff, so i'm very into this I love the 2nd image since it doesn't have hexes though and instead relies on nodes. abstracted movement is key.

This is cool. I saw someone doing it the other day and thought that it was how all the hexmaps should be.

this is a *really* cool idea

If you can answer "What does it bring to the players?" that is worth the time you put into it, then do it. What does it fix that regular hexcrawl do. That's from a strictly game design point.

I think it looks really neat! very final fantasy tactics-esque

It definitely makes the map more "pop-out" and catches attention, which is always cool. :) So I would say go for this over 2D.

Looks cool!

It looks super cool, but I imagine once you start doing more complicated maps with steep slopes, the hills might sometimes obfuscate other important map details?

Looks really cool!

This looks great! Could get crowded, tho, if more hexes have trees or other features.

I love the verticality in those -- they look great.
