Two black crows on the fractured end of a fallen tree that has large patch of moss on the upper portion near the shattered end. A few branches and lots of greenery fill out the background ☮️
Deep pink Redbud blooms that kinda look like they have petals for ears ☮️
Very unusual cloud cover today, I didn’t alter the color of the image, possibly helped by smoke from brush fires in the mountains. On the left is a large dead snag of a tree in front of a mountain ridge that is rising to the right (west) all in silhouette ☮️
I believe it’s broom moss, but they’re also appears to be quite a bit of lichen and I am not sure what variety.
Cladonia portentosa, also known as reindeer lichen or the cream cup lichen
A very large Douglas fir tree that is almost completely covered in a wide variety of lichen and moss. Definitely some standards like broom moss, and the old man’s beard but more types of lichen than I can shake a stick at. I’ll try to provide some detail in comments ☮️
Erythronium oregonum, Oregon Fawn lily with it’s white petals weighed down by the rain. The yellow center is visible on the back of the petals. The only one I have found here so far this year 🤞☮️
Little yellow flowers around around a central cluster of light green buds with green leaves below all that. This Yellowrocket is only about an inch across on top. Seen on a forested ridge near the confluence of the Little North Santiam and the North Santiam rivers ☮️
Bright red blossoms on a small tree that are sharing space with lichen, i think the lichen is called Old Man’s beard, also the light green leaves of the tree are mixed in. All under hazy blue sky ☮️
Pink plum blossoms, trimmed with moss, popping right out of the trunk of this lovely old tree ☮️
The Santiam river running to the west on a cloudy day. Some rocks and rapids on the river, in the bottom third of the photo. Both sides of the river are lined with trees, some of which are starting to leaf out adding to the greenery ☮️
The other end of the spectrum from the last post. One of largest trees in the neighborhood. I think it’s a pine tree, glowing green in the distance, just before sunset. Some trees in silhouette on the left and across the front. A snow-covered ridge in shade behind all that, under cloudy skies in the background ☮️
Thale Cress, first plant to have it’s entire genome sequenced - rock cress is native to temperate and subarctic Eurasia and North America, North Africa, and the mountains of eastern tropical Africa. This genus is of great interest since it contains thale cress (Arabidopsis thaliana), one of the model organisms used for studying plant biology and the first plant to have its entire genome sequenced. Changes in thale cress are easily observed, making it a very useful model ☮️
Black head and neck fading into a blue body and wings on this jay standing on a post 🖤💙☮️
Bigleaf maple in flower mode, strands with light green balls about a quarter of an inch in diameter with tiny hairs that have little balls on end of them. There’s also red growth on the base of the flower
I believe it’s a female evening grosbeak looking over at me, resplendent in gold cap and a bit of gold on the tail as well. Sharp black and white wings with the body fading from black on the head to a peach color before the tail starts. Sitting on the neighbor’s seed tray, cedar tree in the background ☮️
The Santiam river from farther west than usual. Only a couple of snags and little brush along this very rocky section on the south side of the river. The north bank is lined with a variety of trees, some of which, like the fir, cedar and spruce are very large ☮️
Branta canadensis (canada goose) very calmly floating in a lily pad filled pond while it’s mate appears to be keeping a nest warm on the small island in the rather large pond outside the photo. Under blue sky with it reflecting the scene on the water ☮️
Lakeside in Lyons, Oregon. Pink blossoms, red buds and white lichen on a small tree over the water under a sunny blue sky yesterday afternoon ☮️
Yellow violet flower with five petals and some purple stripes near the center, also an insect friend, possibly a hover fly 🤷
The forest on this side of the canyon is in silhouette across the bottom of the photo with the fog behind it highlighting some of the treetops. Much closer on the left is a very tall black spruce tree and considerably further back on the right is a large bare, cottonwood tree. Under a fully clouded sky with a streak of light down low ☮️

During a nice break in the rain a bird on a wire, not far from the top of a utility pole, singing away under partly blue sky ☮️
This afternoon after the rain the fog lifts and wisps of it move over and through the trees that cover the south side of the canyon. The forest in the valley, bottom of the photo, is mostly in silhouette and the fog has cleared out of it ☮️
Through a different lens. Lots of trees in silhouette, mostly on the right, but a couple on the left as well. The sun has almost set while there are little clouds all over picking up the light ☮️

Sweet Violet is a small purple flower with some white stripes near the center that is blooming in a couple of bunches by the corner of the garage door. Only a couple of inches tall

Berberis Aquifolium, aka Oregon grape, bright yellow flowers with deep purple holly-ish leaves. That color is lightly mirrored in the buds mixed with the yellow. The wildflowers are back ☮️
I was told it’s a Double Narcissus with multiple creamy white blooms on a green stem that turns light brown on top. In front of a large Doug fir with green grass at the bottom ☮️
A bright yellow nipplewort bloom. Some of the petals near the center are tipped with black and there’s a little ring of black around the center while everything else is a golden yellow ☮️

A long stretch of sandy ocean beach strewn with lots of driftwood and other debris reaching out to ocean near Waldport, Oregon. Under pink and blue skies a little after sunset ☮️
Blue Grape Hyacinth with it’s tapered cluster of tiny round blooms and according to the fonID, Platycheirus, which is a large genus of hoverflies. They are also called sedgesitters ☮️

A very old yellow logging truck that has been stuck here on the side of the road for decades with a single log on the trailer that is 9 to 10 feet in diameter. The wheels on the front of the trailer are buried to the axle. It’s currently outside of a rock quarry near Sweet Home, Oregon.
Looking west at the Santiam River there are tufts of dry grass and some rocks on the right side. Bare winter trees mixed with conifers line both sides of the river and a large rock (standing about six feet out of the water, ten feet wide) well into center of the river. Under blue sky that’s reflected in the surface of the water
A light green velvety dew-covered mullein along the trail today ☮️
Vinca minor flowers, purple petals with a white center about an inch and a half across. They grow on long vines throughout this section of the riverbank providing hundreds of these flowers 💜💙☮️

Looking to the east from Gates, Oregon. Colorful reflections in the eastern sky with clouds, pink, orange, blue and grey over forested mountains. Lots of trees around a couple of barns and a house. A large bare snag leaning to the left near the center.

The stump of a fallen tree with its bark split and a sizable piece of the bark has flapped out and caught some melting snow. In the wood left exposed by the peeling bark mushrooms have formed. The rest of the stump has a little moss growing in many places and a cap of melting snow on top ☮️
A couple of moss-covered tree trunks that have been swept over by the river so many times they lean heavily downstream. Some of their roots reach down and have been exposed by the river. Some dry grass in spots. River is running clear and several rocks are visible in it ☮️
