Data center hedging One casual way to describe the modern economy is that: 1. Artificial intelligence labs like OpenAI and tech “hyperscalers” like Meta Platforms Inc. have committed to spend, collectively, trillions of dollars to build out AI infrastructure. 2. They don’t have trillions of dollars. 3. But they will pay for it over time with their hundreds of billions of dollars of AI-related revenue. 4. They don’t have hundreds of billions of dollars of AI-related revenue either. 5. But they will. 6. You can tell because of their valuations. OpenAI’s equity is worth $500 billion. The only way its equity is worth $500 billion is if its future cash flows are sufficient to (1) cover its hundreds of billions of dollars of spending commitments and (2) leave hundreds of billions of dollars left over for its equity investors. 7. That is, all of the future AI cash flows are not directly observable — you can’t extrapolate them from current AI cash flows or anything — but they can be inferred from equity-market enthusiasm for AI.

Below are example videos of people interacting with Genie 2. For every example, the model is prompted with a single image generated by Imagen 3, GDM’s state-of-the-art text-to-image model. This means anyone can describe a world they want in text, select their favorite rendering of that idea, and then step into and interact with that newly created world (or have an AI agent be trained or evaluated in it). At each step, a person or agent provides a keyboard and mouse action, and Genie 2 simulates the next observation. Genie 2 can generate consistent worlds for up to a minute, with the majority of examples shown lasting 10-20s.
