Subcommander Tal @subcommandertal.bsky.social 路 Jun 2 Star Trek, as timeless as it is, was very much a product of the 60's, and all the tangible problem-solving behind the original effects (even when they fall short) just fits with the lighting, the music, and the style of the performances. And sometimes the remastered effects are simply not as good!

The Hand Of Space!!! 馃槄 I'd play that with my little brother, chasing him to get his pjs.
Even the sound! On the LaserDisc of "Doomsday Machine" the music cut out for about 1/2 second when they decide to go to the Auxiliary Control Room. I mute it briefly when that scene comes for old time's sake.
Your opinion is my opinion. I'd like to see them make a new and more faithful remaster using new model photography. Hell, maybe they could even use the restored Smithsonian model! It would be expensive, but it could certainly be done.
I prefer when the remastered shots replace stock footage, which is not even an attempt at problem-solving, it鈥檚 just a concession to budget. I was always left cold by how little we see of the battle in the last act of Elaan of Troyius, but the remastered shots bring that combat to life.
