Thoth @thoth.ptnote.dev · Jan 11 I feel like it can't be overstated the degree to which western comics are hurt by their complete failure to make obvious entrypoints for newcomers. If you're a comics fan, you can point out some great comics for someone new to comics to start reading on this shelf. But if you aren't, good luck.

Here's one of the manga shelves. Notice how there are a bunch of volumes numbered 1. I can be reasonably confident that if I pick up volume 1 of any of these comics, I will be at a good entrypoint for a newcomer to the story the comic is telling. Much friendlier!
I'm not really a massive fan of the genre, but I do enjoy a graphic novel from time to time and feel like I can sort of walk over and pick up something and be good to go With most comics if someone is not pointing out a SPECIFIC thing to read (e.g. Dark Knight Returns) I am just beyond confused lol
