It's a gene edited grey wolf. This is disappointing, Time.
While I think this is amazing, it 's also questionably ethical. What role do these revived species serve? Are they here for our research and amusement, like the last Tasmanian tiger? What other species are next? Wooly mammoths? What about dinosaurs? What about Neanderthals? Should we do it?

I don't think anybody understands the ramifications of this kind of work. Bringing back extinct species is a great way to generate money and buzz for technology that can be used to rescue the ones that are already endangered. It speaks to the larger ability of science to directly edit a genome.

Bringing extinct species back into a world with no habitat for them. Brilliant. We can't keep the species alive we have now, maybe we should focus on that first.
It's not a Dire Wolf. Stop saying this. It's a regular wolf with a few genetic modifications. Stop promoting this as the restoration of an extinct species. It's just not true.
