Join groups relevant to your interests.
#1 Dont be annoying, and act like a normal human being whilst in public instances. #2 Make friends #3 "Look at this cool world I want to show you its super pretty"

Got to actually have this experience last night! Totally new person joined a group instance I was in! Got to welcome them, answer questions as to what "all this was" and in general just show someone new a side of life they may not had seen! Was so nice to just be able to say "Hi! Welcome in!"
Mute or block people annoying you! You don't have to endure them.
Stay out of publics.
Usually I'd tell them about earmuff mode and avatar culling.

Help them find a Avi and make sure to introduce them to a good friend group and explain the menue / settings / safety settings and basic functionality. And then take them to some of my favourite worlds and games.
Come dance! Full body, half body, whatever just come dance.

First thing I'd tell them is to join groups. If they're over 18 get age verified and join adult community groups like Ancients of VRChat. You'll have a much better time than if you try joining public instances.

I used to bounce around public looking for new dancers or people that danced in front of mirrors that didn't know about music/dance-focused spaces. I'd dance with them and ask them about whether they knew a space existed. Lots of people now enjoy a less toxic space to express their desire to move.

Avoid publics, join groups of same interest people and hobbies, turn off personal space, a good community can change your frame of mind on your personal interests but make sure it's genuine and not forced by anyone to be female, male, furry or other~

Guide them to dial in their safety settings and reduce max download/compressed size. Typically turning off lights for anyone besides friends, and reducing down/comp to 100mb/200mb. Find your own personal spaces with positive people with shared interests, look to Group publics, not regular publics.
Warn them that the game has been adding tons of microtransactions for limited use trash while also having a subscription service for basic features that would help base game. Explain that publics are bloated with children and pedos who are overlooked because deals made with Meta for even more money.
