I never owned one, but I used the demo model at the grocery store (the grocery store!) extensively while my mom shopped.
The keys were such a different experience to what we have today.

Mine too, had the massive 10k expansion pack as well. Still got it.
Mine was this zx87 clone made in Brazil back in the day.
I learned Basic with a book called “Programming with the ZX81.” But I didn't have a ZX81. I wrote programs on pieces of paper, went to the department store, and tested the programs on the ZX81s on display there. I then bought myself a ZX Spectrum.
Loved this computer. It was also my first, assembled by my father because you had to solder the components.
