Binary Dinosaurs @binarydinosaurs.co.uk · Apr 11 Finally dug out the Microvitec 1441 CUB that Camputers used to use at trade shows back in the day. When I last powered it up in 2018 it had suffered field collapse, so since it’ll be on show at RetroFest (May 30/31, STEAM, Swindon) I’d best fix it eh. First off, interesting crust on the pots.

R235 here is a 10ohm 0.5w fusible resistor. It looks like it’s slightly exploded. Out of circuit it measures 20ohms. Also in the circuit is a 1000uF capacitor which currently measures 880uF so it’s just in spec, but together these form the voltage for the TDA1170S horizontal control chip.
Cause- salt water laden moisture ?
White is probably tin, and green is probably copper? (My best guess. NOT a metallurgist!)
When you say field collapse, was it in a field?
Goodness, that takes me back. I did work experience at Microvitec back in the 90's, I calibrated monitors and did fault finding on PCBs.
Those Piher preset variable resistors do tend to grow white stuff. Sometimes spikes, sometimes blotches. I wonder what the white actually is.
I’ve seen connectors sprout white fluff before. I have no idea what it is or why it happens
That must be the limited edition with coconut flavour controls.
