It's really funny when people forget a stick and a string is literally all you need to measure a perfect circle of basically any scale (and a spool of nontrivial thickness and a string to make a perfect spiral of basically any scale)
In the 90s I subscribed to the Skeptical Inquirer and I still have the crop circle issue. It was also one of my favorites. Must be aliens. Or a guy with a rope and a board.
