You have never laughed as hard as the Washington Post reporter who wrote this sentence.

I wish there was a god so I could tell god to go fuck himself.

@patrickford.bsky.social · 20d

In the Pledge "Under God" was added years later. The Pledge is idiotic in the first place. No one in the world should pledge allegiance to a country. The whole notion of a country is a toxic construct.

@urlcannonbear.bsky.social · 20d

And Mennonites will NOT be the ruling entity in a Christian theocracy. Protestants vs Catholics would be bad enough of a civil war.

moderate-jerk.bsky.social · 20d

People in this country are so goddamn stupid.

Tipsy · 20d

Cooperating teacher should remove her from the program for this ignorance.

@dwightfisher.bsky.social · 20d

Not to mention that phrase was added in 1954 to (supposedly) distinguish the US from “godless (Soviet) communists”. So really just some Cold War propaganda. At the behest of the Knights of Columbus.

Not Paul Revere · 20d

Fun fact: Michael Flynn forgot the words to the pledge of allegiance. Maybe he could have remembered them if they were in Russian? thehill.com/homenews/cam...

Sniffit · 20d

Indeed...and what they were laughing at is that they "cleverly" made it seem like "under God" was in the original Pledge of Allegiance even though it was not. It was more Red Scare bullshit in 1954.

Resting Bike Face · 20d

I could weep. She was raised on propaganda to be an ignorance-expanding machine.

Joe Stutler · 20d

@ilikebluethings.bsky.social · 20d

If your kids ever come home saying they're in "Ms. Stursman's class", look it up and see if it's Abigail over here. If so, get your kids switched to another class if the school won't just fire her for being an idiot.

Wendy M. A. Darling · 20d

I also enjoy the detail of the Mennonite vocal group.

Wendy M. A. Darling · 20d

I’m surprised the WaPo editors let that one slip by. Abigail Stursman, you are going to have a bad couple of days.

Bizzle · 20d

MAGAts: "The Founders intended us to be a Christian nation. 'Under God' is in the pledge & 'in God we Trust' is on our money! Checkmate, Lib!" The Pledge of Allegiance: written 1892, 'Under God' added: June, 1954 In God we Trust: some coins since 1864, added to US currency in 1957 facts matter

Racecarlock · 20d

I'd find this a lot funnier if this kind of stuff didn't run the government right now. As it stands, I'm wondering when the swat team is going to break down my door and force me to go to church under threat of death. Illegally, like that would matter.

Iophiel · 20d

The Declaration of Independence does, though. From the opening preamble: "...all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator..." Our education system is toast. The Christian propaganda has been slowly working itself in more and more since "under God" was added 72 years ago.

@etherbeing.bsky.social · 20d

When forced by societal norms to utter a performative incantation to a country I've protected and championed my entire life with word and deed, I loudly exclude the "under god" going directly instead from "one nation" to With liberty and justice for all".

Posthuman Postma'am · 20d

WOAH. WaPo went WOKE!? 🤭

Mortski · 20d

Oh FFS! Seriously, these people and their Dunning–Kruger bs.

Kevin · 20d

Why does the media insist on quoting and platforming absolute morons?

Jennet Jourdemayne · 20d

Oh Abigail, you ignorant little mouthpiece

Panama Red · 20d

Wellnow, maybe Anna hasn't had her high-school-level government course yet. At 20.

JPWKeeper · 20d

I certainly hope Abagail isn't studying to be a civics teacher.

Ken Ryan · 20d

A work colleague claimed the constitutional reference to me also. When I pointed out that the only mentions of religion at all in the Constitution were in the negative he just walked off. Never brought up religion with me again. 😂

@mlbarney.bsky.social · 20d

And “under God” was only added to the Pledge in 1954.

GenXJamerican🇯🇲🇺🇸 · 20d

A child of the No Child Left Behind era is studying to be a teacher. *sigh*

All Cattes Are Best Cattes · 20d

"Better study harder, ya inbred snake handler yokel!"

CosmicHomicide · 20d

"Studying to become a teacher" could mean "trying to get pregnant and home school", I suppose. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@jcech.bsky.social · 20d

How excited was Abigail to be quoted in the Post? Then she read it.

Tangerine · 20d

God has his hand on this nation you say? Which nations do you think God doesn't have his hand on?

Stlgorman · 20d

Study harder Abigail

Michael Mullady · 20d

the scary part is she's going to become a teacher

Jan Tinklenberg, Fine Arts · 20d

I know we’re all laughing at the student teacher who is ignorant AF, but I’m so distracted by the reporter’s awkward sentence structure that it’s hard to laugh. This is someone who works for a major newspaper?

Joqatana · 20d

What sentence?

@laurab33.bsky.social · 20d

And it was added in the 50’s. The original pledge did not refer to “god”

@thewritingchef.bsky.social · 20d

Fun fact -- the Confederate constitution *does* include the word "God." I wonder if she got them mixed up.

I am nameless yet others name me · 20d

idk man if you work at WaPo at this point the only thing that makes you laugh is tripping up children on the street so that their ice cream lands on the asphalt

Bartholomew Collins · 20d

Constitution does have "in the year of our lord"

tjm.semiretired · 20d

We are doomed.

Elsiemon · 20d

Oh man we are so cooked as a nation

Cindy K · 20d

The Knights of Columbus were responsible for "under God" being added. They are a Catholic organization.

Greenfield949 · 19d

Imagine going through life being that stupid.

🇨🇦 RubyTuesday 🇨🇦 · 20d

"Studying to be a teacher"? And doesn't know that "under god" isn't in the Constitution? Yikes.

It's ME(Jaime) · 20d

And "under god" and "in God we trust" are recent, Red Scare inventions, right?

Holli Winters · 20d

Ugh.....I bet the daughter was schooled either at home or in a private religious school.

CRUISE SHIP DRUMMER!™ · 20d

"under god" wasn't even in there until the 50s

Tim Moyle · 20d

She claims the constitution mentions a deity. Critics have a different take

Dan Davis · 20d

“studying to become a teacher.” Not enough, Abigail. Not enough.

Teleport Me Off This Rock🍀☮🤘💖🐈‍⬛🐈8647 · 20d

Abigail, 20, is going to teach her wrongheadedness to kids whose parents don't know the truth, either. #SAD

BDE - Big Donkey Energy · 20d

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. www.ushistory.org/documents/pl...

@kbvf.bsky.social · 20d

Most certainly the constitution is no document for christians to abuse!

accidentalflyer 🇨🇦🇹🇼🇺🇸🇺🇦 · 20d

Even that was only added in the 1950s during the Cold War.

Bryce · 20d

Not sure about Mennonite vocals, but fuck can they run #letterkenny

Rokey · 20d

"Under God" was only added to the pledge in the '50's.

Gig Drain · 20d

Also, the original pledge had no “under God” in it. It was added later by christian fanatics. I never include it when I say the pledge

Michael Buckelew · 20d

The DOI says stuff about endowed by our creator, so I think we’re technically subject to a YouTuber.

R. Ruth Linden, PhD · 20d

G-d help us all.

Funky16Corners · 20d

I’m pretty sure if their God has his hand anywhere it’s either in my wallet or down someone’s pants

Helen Kennedy · 20d

Link?

Underwater White Shark, PhD (he/him) · 20d

The Pledge of Allegiance: Did NOT originally have “under God in it” Is NOT a founding document. WaPo sucks for not mentioning that.

Theresa Cassiday · 20d

Reporters dream about moments like this. I had a few myself back in the day. 😁

David · 20d

They also can't seem to remember that "under god" was ADDED to the Pledge in the '50s during the red scare.
