In the Pledge "Under God" was added years later. The Pledge is idiotic in the first place. No one in the world should pledge allegiance to a country. The whole notion of a country is a toxic construct.
And Mennonites will NOT be the ruling entity in a Christian theocracy. Protestants vs Catholics would be bad enough of a civil war.

Indeed...and what they were laughing at is that they "cleverly" made it seem like "under God" was in the original Pledge of Allegiance even though it was not. It was more Red Scare bullshit in 1954.

I'd find this a lot funnier if this kind of stuff didn't run the government right now. As it stands, I'm wondering when the swat team is going to break down my door and force me to go to church under threat of death. Illegally, like that would matter.
The Declaration of Independence does, though. From the opening preamble: "...all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator..." Our education system is toast. The Christian propaganda has been slowly working itself in more and more since "under God" was added 72 years ago.
When forced by societal norms to utter a performative incantation to a country I've protected and championed my entire life with word and deed, I loudly exclude the "under god" going directly instead from "one nation" to With liberty and justice for all".

Also, the original pledge had no “under God” in it. It was added later by christian fanatics. I never include it when I say the pledge
