This plan will go ahead with minor changes to the details. ALL politicians who express wonderment or surprise and tell you they are listening to your concerns or that they are aware of public concern or they can stop it from going ahead are being disingenuous to say the least.

Yeah.

Tinker A Taylor hi... do you mean that you cannot do these things? That's fair enough. To be clear: Nobody should be telling you to. Even if someone recommends it, you can always use your own judgement of what's best for you.

But let's get this clear -- you're not "all for cycling" as you're trying to present strawman arguments as fact. I'll break them down:

-- There's loads of people who cycle into Dublin City Centre daily or weekly for work and shopping. If you don't feel you can find a secure place for a bike that's fair enough, that's your call.

-- Dublin's winters are generally mild and comparable to Amsterdam where 50% of resident commuters cycle. We're living in 2026, cheap but still light and effective rain gear is pretty advanced compared to even a decade or two ago.

-- Tens of thousands of people cycle in the winter in Dublin without getting pneumonia or getting blown into traffic. In fact, people do so in Nordic countries with harsher winters. And I know of people who Immuno compromised and they cycle rather than getting the bus in winter because buses can be poorly ventilated. Again: Nobody is saying cycling in winter is for everyone.

-- You can go shopping if you want with smaller shops, or with a good city bike with a basket/create and large panniers, or even a large shop with a cargo bike, but again nobody is saying you have to (1) cycle at all, and (2) even if you cycle, it doesn't mean you have to...

Cllr Mannix Flynn (independent) — who is a serial objector to street changes which impact on cars, including taking the council to court over the Strand Road cycle route — said that the presentation on the plan had little mention of pedestrians, and instead, it was focused on cycling and buses. This is not true, O’Brien had repeatedly mentioned walking or pedestrians and shown images of extra public space.

He also claimed that Capel Street as it currently stands is “very confusing” and does not like cycling being allowed on the street.

Part of Barry Heneghan TD's contribution to a Dail debate on working from home:

"I am not supporting the motion because, as Deputy Currie mentioned, the legal right to request remote work, and the framework around it, recognises the important reality that not every job can be done remotely and not every workplace can operate in the same way. The existing system should be reviewed and, in that regard, I support the intent behind the motion and I welcome this discussion. The legislation we need to create must provide certainty for employees. Arís, gabhaim míle buíochas to the cross-party group on remote work, of which I am part. I spoke to people in Grow Remote yesterday and this morning and they gave me the statistic that Ireland was losing 100,000 jobs due to the current remote working system. We need to examine it with a view to changing it. Access to remote working expands access to jobs for carers. I welcome the work done by the people in the cross-party group.

In north Dublin, there are people who would be 15 minutes from work on a bicycle but when it comes to getting there on a rainy day, they get into traffic congestion and it is not ideal. Those people need to be facilitated if we are serious about tackling congestion, improving quality of life and meeting our climate targets. As we saw recently, we are in line not to meet those targets. We are dealing with this in the climate committee. Action on remote working could be a very important step that would help.

The task now is for Members from all parties and none to work together to see how we can best benefit our economy through remote working, to scale it properly and to support employers and employees. I welcome many of the points made by speakers on all sides of the House today. If we can do this correctly, it will be very beneficial to the Irish people."

There was some confusion over reps from the Royal College of Surgeons presenting their long-term vision for the street at the same local council committee meeting that councillors were being told about the crossings, which were in the process of being installed.

In October, the Dublin Inquirer reported how council officials had apologised for the lack of consultation with local residents.

The college previously outlined its vision for the area in a submission to the Dublin City Centre Transport Plan, but it appears to have gone unnoticed at that stage.
