Gender equality and Abrahamic religions are fundamentally incompatible—because their foundational texts, traditions, and institutional structures have historically and systematically enforced patriarchal hierarchy, subjugating women to male authority. From Genesis 3:16’s decree that 'thy husband shall rule over thee' to the exclusion of women from religious leadership, interpretation of sacred texts, and legal rights within these faiths, the evidence is clear: these religions were designed to preserve male dominance. As feminist scholars like Karen L. Garst and Barbara G. Walker argue, the perpetuation of Abrahamic religions relies on maintaining gender inequality—not as a byproduct, but as a core feature of their theology and practice.
Why I criticise religion! Not because I hate gods, or because I seek to diminish anyone’s personal beliefs, but because I refuse to accept that unproven claims of divinity, no matter how widely held, should dictate morality, law, or social norms. When Faith oversteps into coercion, when it demands my silence or compliance, or when it slanders and/or labels me for my rejection of belief, my honesty, my sincerity, it ceases to be a private matter! My critique is a defense of reason, autonomy, and the right to live free from the imposition of dogma. If your Faith brings you comfort, that is your right. Don't call me names for REJECTING RELIGION! I refuse to be labeled for what I do not believe in, just as I refuse to be punished for not believing in what cannot be proven, and what to me appears highly unlikely or even ridiculous. My freedom to reject the unproven should never come at the cost of my dignity, my rights, or my place in society. If your faith brings you peace, let it be yours alone to hold. But do not demand I kneel to it, nor brand me for rejecting it. Faith is a choice and so is the absence of it. And no one should pay the price for choosing honesty, reality and facts over dogma.
