The Miao, an ethnic minority primarily in southern China, lacks a script. Instead, they embed their history, myths, and traditions into their clothing through detailed embroidery and batik patterns. These designs often depict legendary stories of their migrations, wars, and religious beliefs.

Thank you for sharing this with us… I have some interaction with the Hmong people here in Fresno- The textile colors, symbolism are beautiful and the silver! I have been able to watch traditional dance and communication ….magical, but your pictures are wonderful.

Costumes that weave stories—how colorful and beautiful they are. In Japan's Heian period, 'Onmyōdō,' a unique system of magic and divination, also played an important role.

Another amazing series of photos and such richness in the patterns. Thanks for explaining their traditions as you always help us to understand them better.

These may be the most beautiful & extraordinary works of cultural craftsmanship you’ve ever📸, K. A whole new meaning to, “Every picture tells a story.” I must admit I’m💔by their view of illness, given my decades of severe ill health. By their belief I must be full of evil souls😔 (But IK M isn’t😢).

Reminds me of Native American winter counts, animal skin painted to memorialize important events. Some of the birds remind me of Mexican depictions in embroidery.

Wow, that is some cool thread. I'd love a vest or a thick strip of it down the side of a pair of pants
