Youngest just told me “Dad you look like the detective in a Northern crime drama.” FINALLY someone gets it.

Subtitle: "His Morris Minor is parked right there, so answer me this, Inspector—why was a train ticket to Nottinghamshire found in the breast pocket of his macintosh?"

I don’t know if you remember the Twitter thread about a certain type of English man: worked for the BBC in the seventies, warhammer-adjacent, not a wizard but not NOT a wizard etc. That’s the look you’re heading towards.

He's never been the same since Billy disappeared from the crofting centre...

(Youngest has now been shown this thread and is quietly appalled)

"Key witness" at best. Probably one who is revealed a red herring at the end of the second act too. Sorry.

That’s one way to cull “excess” staff I guess

Me, pitching to the ABC: So there's this eccentric philosopher named Pat Stokes who moves to a remote town in western Tasmania to take up wood turning full time after University staff cuts. But strange murders keep happening and he's forced into becoming an amateur detective. Title: Stokes The Fire

Pup Fiction · 23d

I reckon you look like someone who's a suspect for a while in Vera or Shetland but doesn't turn out to be the murderer

Pretty sure I could pass for Vera when I'm walking the beach here during Winter. I have a waterproof coat and everything- still working on the bucket hat. Oh and don't worry about the cows ..they're a pair of delinquents who escape regularly and end up on the beach.

A future Doc Martin recurring character? Perhaps the uni lecturer that visits his cow hobby-farm each weekend and gets some fishing in every now and then. HOWEVER, he causes chaos in the town asking for Aussie beers at the local. It writes itself.

Patrick · 23d

Sorry sir, but the directions you gave me almost had me going off a cliff.

So “Patkanda Forever”?

Dr Sally · 22d

That’s a compliment!

Tasmania has been a bit overexposed. What about the central ranges of Victoria? you could have a Hanging Rock episode. Film crew sets out to remake Picnic, ...but not all of them return. Sarge Stokes takes a close look at the rushes…
