My 18 year old Daisy is deaf now too and nothing bothers her.

My dog has eventually become mostly deaf... and now, no longer fears fireworks or thunder.

I took my dog to the very first display I could. I've found if they understand that the display is part of the 'boom' they are way less scared. We hide them in our house, under the covers and all they have is HEARING without understanding where and why. Show your dogs fireworks!

The last time we decided to set off fireworks (sparklers, Catherine wheels, volcanos, etc) one of our rescue dogs (who was fiercely protective of my Mom) escaped from the house when a visitor opened the patio door and decided to attack them. Cue burnt mouth and emergency vet visit.

We shoot off fireworks instead of guns. Some retrogrades still fire guns in the air in celebration though. I think gradually (or sooner I hope) there will be a shift to idk, drone light shows or something, and only a backward few will cling (with 9 fingers) to the noise, litter and gunpowder.
My furry children hate this time of year. Between the thunderstorms we've been having and the fireworks they are pretty stressed out

I had a chihuahua years ago (and he was not deaf!) who absolutely loved fireworks! He was a weird little guy. I miss him.

Besides the psychological impact on many humans/animals, fireworks are dangerous (burn injuries & deaths), a source of wildfires & pollution. They release large quantities of carbon dioxide, contributing to climate change & poor air quality. There are healthier ways of having fun (drones/lasers)!

I'm happy for Mariner, but not for the wildlife, domestic animals, & for those humans that can't stand fireworks due to their PTSD (war, trauma impacts, etc) from life.

My brother had a dog that had gone deaf. She would bark at the fireworks because even though she couldn't hear the noise, she could feel them. All dogs are different.

I don't like fireworks and I wish they were at the very least, left to professionals, but every 4th I'm reminded of my old neighbors dog when I was a kid. He would "chase the fireworks" to the end of the yard. He never minded them.

That is one happy, excited pupper! My two indoor cats are strangely fascinated by the light show and noise, though they’ve begun to cling to us and follow us around the house a bit more in recent years when folks set them off. My spoopy boy cat also checks the house for a day after, expecting more.

My current pal Asa the pitty, has zero fucks about it (but freaks out over getting his feet wet. weirdo) But my previous dogs suffered greatly. tried tranqs until I realized they were both high as giraffe balls AND terrified. Thereafter (and still) I spend the 4th evening in bed covered in mutt.

This is Bear. He crossed the rainbow bridge July 2024 from lymphoma at age 5. We spent that whole month hiding in the basement because neighborhood assholes lit off fireworks daily. Maybe this isn't the flex you think it is
My older dog who used to be terrified with fireworks is now deaf ( and his vision is also very poor) so he hasn’t had the shakes this year! I still get completely rattled by fireworks.

Our deaf Swissie was the same way. Every puppy we had after we got her was trained, by her behavior, not to be scared by fireworks or thunder.
After our sheltie became deaf in her old age, she adored fireworks and thunderstorms. So lovely that Mariner gets to enjoy the show without being frightened.

Our dog doesn't care any more about fireworks than it does about the gunshots we hear on any given day here in North Idaho. Of course the big booms do get his attention.

Nature is highly affected by these unnatural light and sound displays, plus the dust and particulates in the air affects lungs. The time for this boom boom light tradition is over. Go to drones which make for a silent, but spectacular show.

To any of you criticizing the original poster, and you don’t know anything about who they are, here’s a little info. 15/10 Foundation is one of the most amazing orgs and does incredible work rescuing and rehabilitating injured dogs. So if you think they are insensitive to animals, you’re wrong.

My shepherd was outraged at the explosions. Running back and forth chasing the bottle rockets and attacking firecrackers, they'd blow up in here mouth and just get her angrier. Had to keep her inside.

My recently deceased assistance hound 🐕🦺 Sally, used to sit & watch fireworks with me without any issues at all. She also used to B OK in a very loud cinema, theatre or even a concert too so I was very lucky in that regard. Merle Sally's replacement is pretty chill too so far #Merle_Assistance_Hound

My sister had two cattle dogs who loved fireworks. They’d run out on the deck to watch and bark their heads off. It was the one day a year they could celebrate with a barkathon and not get yelled at.

It’s not merely the city/town fireworks, it’s the individual revelers. I live where the huge firework tent sales pop up a month before, where it’s allowed everywhere. So it’s constant all summer long. Btw, my dog used to be cool with going to the vet…10 yrs later, not so much! SAME with fireworks

Family and I have had several rescues in my 70+ yrs. I had a yorkie with excellent hearing who would run to the window to watch fireworks. Only dog I’ve known to do that.

Our dog wasn't deaf, but didn't have the best hearing. She lived fireworks, too. People were more entertained watching her enjoying fireworks than the fireworks themselves.

You can still feel the ‘boom’ if you’re deaf. It’s one of those sounds that feels exactly like it sounds. Know from personal experience. Just sayin’. 😊
Our special boy Roo the Kangaroo is also deaf so, while all the other dogs freak out with the loud noises, he's snoring louder than the fireworks.

The first and only dog Ive ever heard of that isnt terrified of fireworks! At home, we took turns comforting our dear Cody every 4th of July.

I have a dog who wishes she were deaf every time fireworks go off. She’s a big dog who turns into a shivering mess - i love her but I haven’t been able to celebrate July 4th fireworks for 8 years now. I also have a heeler who’s is fine with them though - dogs, gotta love em.
