Looks brutal, just like the book.

What a time for this particular story to be adapted to film...

@stoneman-rds.bsky.social · Aug 8

What luck! Recently read the book and liked it as much as possible

Corey Jay · Jul 26

A brutal read and I’m sure a brutal movie. I can’t wait.

Old Man Kensey · Jul 26

This is my favorite novella of yours. I look forward to the movie. We should all credit you greatly for this genre. This and Running Man surely provided much inspiration to The Hunger Games (and Japan's Battle Royale), Squid Games, and so forth.

@lumina80.bsky.social · Jul 26

Read it earlier this year. It'll be interesting to see how they've adapted this one for the screen and the current times.

Keriezy · Jul 27

Someone told me this story, when I was in 7th grade, and said it was called Running Man. Which I why I bought and read RM; to get the whole story. It wasn't the same story.

Oreb Goodbird · Jul 27

A great reminder to never hike the Appalachian Trail in Chuck Taylor’s. And that shaking is optional.

kay-grook · Jul 26

hey steve.

Westergrut Benfolly III, Esq. · Jul 26

This trailer is what flashes through my wife’s mind when I casually ask, “Hey, wanna do a hike with me this weekend?”

Democrat Haderach · Jul 26

Piss on the Major. Everyone wants to piss on the Major.

Adam J.B. Lane · Jul 26

I read this story almost 40 years ago in my school library's copy of The Bachman Books, and it has stayed with my ever since then. That's a hallmark of great storytelling. Bravo, Mr. King.

Aimee Moore · May 22

The Long Walk wows me because there is so much depth in the book, and the movie too when it’s literally a bunch of guys walking. So good!

@msdottieb.bsky.social · Jul 26

This booked fucked me up when I read it 30 years ago. But just from the trailer, it’s exactly like the pictures in my head as I read it. So disturbing. And now, so real.

@k-mo-ray.bsky.social · Jul 26

Saw them filming on my way to work everyday for a few weeks last summer at Birdshill Park Manitoba

Caroline Elletee · Jul 26

I loved this book but it hurt me. Haunts me like no other of your books, and you have many that are haunting. Not sure I can watch it as a movie. But I am tempted by how amazing this looks.

@ezlouie.bsky.social · Jul 27

I loved this story too!! Looking forward to seeing the movie.

DasLyfe · Jul 26

Oh hell yeah! One of my favorites has finally been adapted! And they changed the speed to 3 mph! My suspension of disbelief had no problem with the Walk premise, but 4 mph… once I tried maintaining that pace, every reread was like, no way is that possible!

Francis-Lematt · Jul 26

I think the trailer shows too much I feel I have already finished watching the entire film.

@dave-in-aberdare.bsky.social · Jul 26

100% the bleakest story you have written, and I absolutely loved it back then as I do now. I always presumed it was a metaphor for enlisting in the army, seeing as Vietnam was still raw then. Then again, I'm frequently wrong. I said before, it's one of those that stays with you.

@ayonike.bsky.social · Jul 26

The original hunger games...

24/7 ID EpsteinRap1sts · Jul 26

I watched the trailer and while by no means does it compare to horror of the Bataan Death March, I did think of a long dead cousin who survived that.

@drollster.bsky.social · Jul 26

I love this story. Such a grim tale, but a fun read.

@socalurker.bsky.social · Jul 26

Thank you Richard Bachman

BearBear’s Human · Jul 26

Iono…I read this years ago and thought it was great. I might have enjoyed the movie version more when Obama or Biden were president and we weren’t ruled by crazed fascists…

@ooger.bsky.social · Jul 26

Great story by Dicky Bachman

Sloth · Jul 26

How did I not know this was coming?!? I've been wanting this to be dramatized for decades!

Dave Dustin · Jul 26

Do I have to have read the original to understand any nuisances like with most releases these days? Kidding. Of course I've read the book.

My Dad had every book you wrote and watched all of your movies. He passed last September. I think he would have really liked this movie. He was such a fan. I now have his book collection. The first movie of yours I saw was Pet Cemetery with my parents.

@turtlesleviathan.bsky.social · Jul 26

This was one of my absolute favorite stories as a kid! Can't wait to watch this.

@hugo-snigletz.bsky.social · Jul 26

YES! My favorite story from the Bachman Books!!!! I tried to explain this premise to my 13yr old and couldn't do it justice. Now we get to watch on film!

Suzanne McCain · Jul 26

It's Mark🐫! We know it will be great because you are both so good.

Aleks Mineyko🇨🇦🇵🇱 · Jul 26

This story is iconic.

C · Jul 26

As I get older Stephen, the stories of yours that most disturbed me in my youth are coming back to me in an increasingly disturbing order as films in my older age. It’s like destiny has decided to make all of your creepy stories into movies, but has left the most disturbing ones till last.

The Cybernetic Sage · Jul 26

Is that...MAR🐫? @markhamillofficial.bsky.social One of many reasons why you are the Master, Mr. King...

Sheila · Jul 26

I can't wait!!!

Your_Detroit_Auntie · Jul 26

Sai King, I read this story at 10 yrs old. Hiding in a closet because I wasn't supposed to. I've read it numerous times since then and I can't wait for this!

@blinkndash.bsky.social · Jul 26

This looks like quality filmmaking à la Shawshank/Green Mile. Can’t wait to see it.

rodneyscat · Jul 26

I’ve been waiting for this story to be made into a move, wondering why it hadn’t been done yet, but now it’s here I fear watching it; what if it doesn’t do the story justice, or worse, what if it does…?

NobodySpecial · Jul 26

I loved this story growing up. I hope this movie captures that vibe! So good!

@bigmac373737.bsky.social · Jul 26

i will go see this movie. thx

Mr. Anderson · Jul 26

@croni2.bsky.social · Jul 26

Looks promising... Francis Lawrence can shoot (love Knowing), King can obviously tell a tale and Philip Seymour Hoffman's son Cooper can act

Heather Feld · Jul 26

I have been waiting for this movie since I first read the story.

Breck Wilhite · Jul 26

Wicked. Was this always a metaphor for military service?

@sewerhero1.bsky.social · Jul 26

I love every story in the quartet, but this and Stand by Me were my favourites. I hope this film is as good as the other.

Purple Queen Publishing 📚💜 · Jul 26

Intersting. Set in rural America. I definitely didn't envisage that when I read it (one of your best stories ever), I thought it was more futuristic.

WickedMary · Jul 26

I'm so excited about this! I loved this story but always thought it would be impossible to film. I think they might have pulled it off. ❤️

This novella the whole collection, really, made such an impact on me. I think back to Rage and the Long Walk and man, I think it’s your fault I’m a teacher. Your books saved me, I’m trying to repay the favor. I can quote, turn dog eared pages to passages that heal or feel and still find new.

I read this book in the library 40 years ago at the age of 12. It was an edition that didn’t have your name on it as the author. In the intervening years, I’ve read all your books, but I haven’t read this one since and it still haunts me. I’m not sure I can actually handle watching this as a movie.

MARiNA · Jul 26

Politicians are being assassinated, arrested, inarcerated. Human beings are locked in cages in concentration camps. Concentration camps are being built to lock up the mentally ill. People are being kidnapped and disappeared. Judges are impotent, ignored. Criminals are running the country. Horror 101

Cerberus Rex · Jul 26

Am so looking forward to this. Lost count of the number of times I have read it. 🤘

Louis Vazquez · Jul 26

Can‘t wait, but it will be so hard to watch. The trailers are devastating already. (Loved the book, but read it when I was young, didn‘t have kids and knew little if the world.)

Sauwercraud · Jul 26

in my memory, those walkers were all kids, right? Also still upset, that there still won't be a faithful The Running Man adaptation 😞 This would have fit these times we currently live in very well

@fonemonkey.bsky.social · Jul 26

This is one of the books I have read many, many times. I’m on roughly my fourth copy as I have gifted the book to others. Everyone you read it there’s a different set of emotions, it always wraps around my mood.

I'm teaching this story in my "American Road Narratives" class this fall. Can't wait.

David Chapman · Jul 26

I don't know how you can do justice to the book in the span of a movie. So much is going to be lost. But I think they have the spirit of it.

I am exited to see this. I would name The long walk as one of the books that has left the biggest impression on me, despite it being relatively short. I have read it four times. The first time when I was 16, and the last time as 30 yo. It works on many levels.

@johnnadin1.bsky.social · Jul 26

Went to the cinema the other day and saw back to back trailers for The Long Walk and The Running Man. Richard Bachman would be proud!

This title is the wrong Long Walk to remember. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Wa...

capttreehouse.bsky.social · Jul 26

I’ll wait till I see it, but nothing here really captures the spirt and grind of the book, it just falls into that typical YA dystopian look and feel. You really captured such a desperate / hopeless struggle in the book - it’s a walking cosmic horror, an endurance of life beyond all odds. This?

HaiYaDa · Jul 26

this looks amazing!!

Piano Mover · Jul 27

I can't make up my mind about this story being prophetic or just plain human nature.
