Recording North 100 (The podcast) and the guys are chatting about the new Ral Zarek, and like, I don’t play Commander, but if I did and someone targeted me with this -7 ability I think I just scoop? Seems miserable no?

Unless they hit 5 tails and you watch THEM scoop.

MattMT · Apr 1

Idk, that's a lot of "not the threat" equity.

Moxfield · Apr 2

Even worse if you have it in a deck with Edgar, King of Figaro

Erika Cole 🦊☕ · Apr 1

I would at least wait until they flip. Watching someone get 5 tails in a row would be well worth it.

Eddy · Apr 1

I mean, it's a neat callback to/inversion of OG Ral, but getting hit by it is just the worst & I'd understand scooping. But it might just be one of those PWs like Aminatou that has a gentleman's agreement to never ult. Plus it can't be activated right away, even w/ Doubling Season, so there's that

Luke · Apr 1

Thought exercise: Is it more or less miserable than the original Ral from Ravnica flipping coins and *taking* extra turns? I think they are about the same and equally extremely difficult to activate in a normal game of magic.

VIV · Apr 2

Yeah im not running this without making it very clear that im never activating the -7 on anyone.

The upside is if you have a card that takes a bunch of extra turn you're the Ahole no one wants to play with, but if you make one person lose a bunch of turns you're the Ahole only one person dosnt want to play with

*desire to only play Pauper Commander intensifies*

Rob Gunn · Apr 1

Don’t concede, go get a milkshake. Tell them to wait if it gets to your turn. Take your time. Contemplate the meaning of life. Check back in 4-6 hours 😂

Omega00024 · Apr 1

Depends, is Wheeler flipping the coins?

protojman · Apr 1

Would you rather one person take up to 5 extra turns or force one person to skip up to 5 fewer turns? Which one of these makes the commander games shorter?

Kris // ⌈Tautology⌋ ΘΔ& · Apr 1

besides the points others covered: yeah like most players don't get the time or chance to ult a planeswalker in commander

D-Haas · Apr 1

I'd say that's true of most Planeswalker ults

Karolina 🍉 · Apr 2

ngl I saw that and my first thought was... "wait why is he mono black" 🤔 But the next thing was "why did they print that ult" so yeah

Spike Feeder Alex · Apr 1

Big "I'll see you all next week" energy on the other end of that one.

@bananaf4p.bsky.social · Apr 1

Let it ride!

Brands · Apr 1

100%. Why would you use this ult on a multiplayer game. that's just a miserable experience

derek · Apr 1

unless they're playing it in a weird superfriends deck that runs the green counters add-ons and black, surely it doesn't last that long

Enigma, the Wolf Mind Mage · Apr 1

Thankfully, you're unlikely to ever see the -7, especially in Commander. Especially since this fails the Doubling Season test.
