Dang, it doesn't even look that good. Might as well use the money to buy a 3d printer and make it yourself. Better.

ktk · Jan 13

Agreed! So many cool sets but definitely not priced to be accessible for most people. If they lowered them they could sell so many more sets! I’d probably spend way more on Lego overall if the individual sets cost less. But with how they are now, I’ll buy one every few years

Franken-Pattern · Jan 12

$700.00 usd for a box of plastic is insane.

Agreed! They should only be a tenth of that price!

What happened to Lego blocks man. Building castles, police cars , spaceships and castle ships, and police castles and flowers on space horses Wasn’t the point of Lego the infinite imagination possible, these things are one shot and done .

Tiger Pournelle, Furious Irish🏳️‍🌈 · Jan 13

This is why I stopped getting sets last year. The Batmobile was the last one I bought. Because this is insane. All that’s happening. Is people are buying these off and then jacking the prices up upon the resale market. You can find all of these sets for fractions of the price on eBay.

SteveInAshland · Jan 13

Don't judge other people's hobbies that don't affect you. You likely have some hobby that others consider pointless. (I have not bought or played with Legos in probably 50 years.)

Mr. Cyndaquil · Jan 13

Shark · Jan 12

yeah. dont buy lego at this scale anymore. there smaller sets are still fine but anything over a 100 dollars is a waste of money. theyre bad by any metric you pick for how to value lego.

McSnee · Jan 12

Lego has been hovering around a dime per piece for like a decade-plus now. These sets aren't to my taste, but they're physically big sets for adults and are priced in line with that market. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Adult collectors and investors. Don't underestimate the effect of people who buy to hold (and later re-sell) on this market.

Jaxer · Jan 12

Ah yes, the franchise for kids so they made sets explicitly not for children

Ash · Jan 13

It is honestly terrible how much they are charging for this stuff now. I remember when Lego was extremely reasonably priced back when it was a Kids toy. Since adults have taken an interest for collection reasons the prices have just ballooned.

TotallyNotAnAlienHidingInAFleshSuit · Jan 12

At that price they better be life sized.

Tom · Jan 12

There are Lego enthusiast pages on social media, but recently they've pivoted very much to US people posting enormous hauls with 20+ boxes of each, scalping I guess. Same nonsense with Hot wheels cars. Kinda weird how every hobby must be monitised in the US. Same with real cars. Ruins it.

Captain Sidecar · Jan 13

Once again, for those in the back, LEGO HAS *ALWAYS* BEEN EXPENSIVE. On a price per brick, or price per unit weight, basis, these are pretty consistent with anything else in the licensed product range. You can *still* buy a Lego set for $10 or less. Just not one of these.

Jackie🇨🇭🇪🇺🇺🇦 · Jan 12

Nah, at this point Lego is for religious fanatics. The alternatives aren't just cheaper, but better more often than not.

🎀RhythmInside🎀 · Jan 12

You think that's bad? Check out the prices in Canadian! 🫠 They better come out with some Brickheadz or some small play sets ASAP or else this line is not gonna be off to a good start..

(s)noey❄️🏳️‍⚧️ · Jan 12

pokemon lego series being insanely expensive and exclusively featuring gen 1 stuff is so quintessentially pokemon it's hilarious

Lumanare Maxima · Jan 13

Gods above, that's absurd! I can go with an offbrand and pay like not even 1/3rd that for similar stuff, AND IT HAS ARTICULATION. (Limited, but.) and it's probably 10x easier to build. Less Detailed, yea, but easier on the wallet and hands.

Mr.GH · Jan 13

Are they running out of Chinese plastic? or is it corpo greed fever?

VoidowS · Jan 13

It hardly looks like Lego anymore. It's no longer building with the parts we have, but every new product has it;s own unique pieces. Totally streamlined. I loved the old way of lego much more.

Seriously. The Star Trek TNG set is less than that starters set! I love Lego, but these are a definite pass. We’ll stick with the Animal Crossing sets. It would have been really cool if they did small sets featuring gym leaders with their Pokémon. A Cerulean City Gym set would be really cool.

Barloq · Jan 13

Yeah, I have the money but I just outright refuse. Insane. But fun fact, you can get many Nintendo-based "lego" sets on Ali Express and Temu. The most expensive is like $50 but they average in the 20-30 range. No, they're not LEGO, but they get the scratch itched.

@l753ska.bsky.social · Jan 13

This is an investment, not a child's game anymore. If I buy them both and keep them sealed in their original boxes for 10 years—hidden from light, heat, mold, or freezing temperatures—what will their value be then? That is what I keep asking myself.

MoonlitMaple · Jan 13

Xhathis · Jan 13

Not arguing the price tag, but it does contain over 6800 bricks, so a rather large set.

Marquis De Sud · Jan 13

idk why so many people still give their money to a company, which rise their prices while reducing bricks at the same time to satisfy their shareholders every year... Usually you get better and cheaper sets from BlueBrixx, COBI, CADA, Mega (e.g. Pokemon) and Mould King!

Ihza Mhaskova · Jan 13

The problem is the price per piece model. We should judge it on price per ounce or gram. A giant set could be 4,000 unique pieces with unique color shades. A medium set could be 8,000 mass produced regular color pieces with instructions on how to make a licensed character.
