Agreed! So many cool sets but definitely not priced to be accessible for most people. If they lowered them they could sell so many more sets! I’d probably spend way more on Lego overall if the individual sets cost less. But with how they are now, I’ll buy one every few years

This is why I stopped getting sets last year. The Batmobile was the last one I bought. Because this is insane. All that’s happening. Is people are buying these off and then jacking the prices up upon the resale market. You can find all of these sets for fractions of the price on eBay.

It is honestly terrible how much they are charging for this stuff now. I remember when Lego was extremely reasonably priced back when it was a Kids toy. Since adults have taken an interest for collection reasons the prices have just ballooned.

Once again, for those in the back, LEGO HAS *ALWAYS* BEEN EXPENSIVE. On a price per brick, or price per unit weight, basis, these are pretty consistent with anything else in the licensed product range. You can *still* buy a Lego set for $10 or less. Just not one of these.

It hardly looks like Lego anymore. It's no longer building with the parts we have, but every new product has it;s own unique pieces. Totally streamlined. I loved the old way of lego much more.

Seriously. The Star Trek TNG set is less than that starters set! I love Lego, but these are a definite pass. We’ll stick with the Animal Crossing sets. It would have been really cool if they did small sets featuring gym leaders with their Pokémon. A Cerulean City Gym set would be really cool.
I'd be tempted by the gym badges, but given the rest of these prices, I could probably buy authentic-looking metal replicas at a local con for like 1/4 of the price.

Yeah, I have the money but I just outright refuse. Insane. But fun fact, you can get many Nintendo-based "lego" sets on Ali Express and Temu. The most expensive is like $50 but they average in the 20-30 range. No, they're not LEGO, but they get the scratch itched.
This is an investment, not a child's game anymore. If I buy them both and keep them sealed in their original boxes for 10 years—hidden from light, heat, mold, or freezing temperatures—what will their value be then? That is what I keep asking myself.

The problem is the price per piece model. We should judge it on price per ounce or gram. A giant set could be 4,000 unique pieces with unique color shades. A medium set could be 8,000 mass produced regular color pieces with instructions on how to make a licensed character.

My family loves Lego. I got the Lego game boy ($60) for Christmas and my kids got a cute Bluey set ($30). I think for the high quality those are fair prices. We also found a solution to the $100+ super big/expensive sets. We just don’t buy them and then it doesn’t really hurt us if others do. 🤷♂️

Rule of thumb is sets usually cost about 10 cents per piece. Pikachu has 2,050 pieces The Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise set has 6,838. So the prices are about right.

The starter trio set has roughly the same piece count as Rivendell and is $150 more expensive. Absolutely outrageous. And the thing is, I get that it has a big piece count, but it would still be outrageous at half that price. You're paying entirely for the name (same as the Star Wars sets)
